CCTV for home security: a simple starting setup
2026-04-05 · 5 min read

Begin with the entry points. The main gate, the front door and the rear access cover the routes an intruder is most likely to use.
Mount cameras at around 2.5 to 3 metres — high enough to be out of reach, low enough to capture faces rather than the tops of heads.
Add a recorder with enough channels to allow one or two future additions, and a surveillance hard disk sized for at least 15 days of footage.
Set up mobile viewing during installation and test it from outside your home network before the technician leaves.
